Crazy, Magic Goals..

Today I am celebrating once again those crazy magic goals, these are the ones you only ‘put out there’ .
As a coach I encourage people to dream big and think of crazy dreams which they may not have any idea of how they will make happen.
In business we set targets, so many new customers, % increase in sales and profit, new products and successful marketing campaigns.
These goals give us the target, and then we work our what we have to do to make them happen. We may need more people, more calls, better technology etc..
These are the specific goals we can take action to achieve everyday.
Business targets are no different to many personal goals in that way. We put a marker in the sand and take action to achieve it.
An individual deciding, they want to run a marathon, start a business, speak on a stage or write a book will require time and energy to achieve it. Probably manoeuvring round some obstacles along the way.
So, when I talk about crazy magic goals in this post, I’m talking about something else.
I’m talking about goals, visions, crazy ideas you might have which you simply put out there. Yes, you say them out loud, then trust that the rest will take care of itself.
Some might call it the law of attraction, although one of the keys to law of attraction is that you do take action.
If you do create a crazy goal, of course you can take action to make it happen, and if so it becomes one of your target goals.
However, in my experience with the 1000’s of people I have been coaching over the years, these mad, crazy ‘requested’ goals and dreams somehow finding you. Once you have decided what they are or it is.
I asked a friend of mine recently what her ‘crazy goal’ would be, and she said she would love to do a climb for charity up a mountain, Machu Picchu or Kilimanjaro for example.
Three weeks later out of nowhere an e.mail arrived in her inbox and the company she works for was sponsoring it’s employees to climb Kilimanjaro.
Had she not have said it out loud that night, would the e.mail have arrived? or more to the point would she have been so delighted to read it.
I ask people at the beginning of their week, what’s the craziest and best thing that could happen for you this week.
Sometimes it’s hard for people to get out of their normal thinking of what have I got to do today, to get closer to my targets. Taking a moment to daydream feels strange.
Often their response is work related a new unexpected client, a call from the press to feature an article, or being invited out for dinner, an unexpected invite to an event.
These are the things which you are not actually going to try to make happen. But you do give some energy and thought to, just a few moments to consider the magic which this one thing could create in your life.
By the end of the week inevitably I receive a text or an e.mail starting with the same sentence each time…You won’t believe this Amanda…but guess what…
I wanted to share a wonderful story about crazy magic dreams.
5 years ago I was invited to work with a wonderful company ITC Luxury Travel.
At 34, Jennifer Atkinson had recently taken over as CEO and her first year in role had been tough. The business had just about held on through the recession and it was Jen’s job to turn the fortunes of the business around.
The targets and goals for the business in her first year were mostly financial, to ensure the company which had been trading for 40 years continued to trade.
Jen met the targets she set in the first year, and it was time to complement financial targets with goals around the people, that’s when I was invited to support the business.
Everyone had worked hard, there had been job cuts and now it was time to focus on another target ‘everyone at ITC to feel great and be great ’.
Although the goal seems a little intangible, there is so much you can do each day to make it happen, and it is in fact very measurable because of great companies such as Best Companies and Times Top 100 measures.
We achieved these goals and were recognised in The Times Top 100.
It was about eighteen months ago during a review with Jen I asked this question:
What would be a crazy goal? – Think about something we are not going to work towards, but could potentially be amazing if it happened.
Jen thought for a while and then said her crazy, magic, goal would involve television.
‘’Imagine’’ Jen said ‘’ If we were on the BBC, a new programme on travel’’
I had flash backs to Wish you were Here, with Judith Chalmers when I was younger.
Three months later Jen was approached quite out of the blue by a TV producer to be involved with a programme to do with travel. It wasn’t the right thing at the time.
(Although I was very impressed by how quickly the magic was working)
Then a few months later Jen was approached again by producers creating a documentary for the BBC. Again this was completely out of the blue.
I have just watched a preview of this incredible programme The Millionaire’s Holiday Club which is going out on BBC2 this Friday at 9pm.
It’s amazing, although I am biased as I love the wonderful team at ITC.
However, what I am most overjoyed about is this: I remember as clear as today my conversation with Jen, it was a hot sunny day much like today and we were coaching in Jen’s garden at the time.
What would be your crazy, out there magic goal if it happened???………Oh maybe a programme on the BBC.
We all work hard to achieve the targets we write on paper and commit to everyday, this is the foundation of our work.
But I encourage you always to remember, to daydream a little, and request a little magic.
For the magic, universe, call it what you will to work, you have to have requested what it is that would make your day ….if it came your way.
The Millionaire’s Holiday Club gives us a glimpse of what holidays can be like, in fact seeing these destinations, the service and the hotels in itself gives us good reason to create some magic, crazy, yes please goals.
I love having goals and targets to take action toward each day, they give me purpose.
I also love ‘putting’ crazy dreams out there and letting the universal law of attraction connect you to them at the perfect time.
#Keep on Day Dreaming Big Dreams – then say them out loud
Millionaires Holiday Club – BBC2 9pm – Friday 10th June 2016.
